Remi. That’s the codename for the phone that the Sony Ericsson is preparing to release. The rumor said that this handset is a music handset. However, there’s a strong prediction that this handset won’t use the famous Walkman branding.

The Walkman brand mobile phone isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, so this new Sony Ericsson Walkman-less mobile, called the “Remi” may just suit those down to the ground. So if not Walkman, what can we expect from the Sony Ericsson Remi?

It is the successor of the first slim walkman phone from Sony Ericsson named W880. Even though the two phones has pretty similar dimension, several improvements are available in this new generation such as slightly bigger display (2” as compared to the 1.9” of W880), more comfortable keypad and a 3.2 Megapixel built-in camera (compared to the 2 Mpx of the W880)

Other difference is the case. The W890’s case is fully metallic, unlike the one of W880 which had the sides of the back panel made from ‘soft-touch’ plastic. You can see the two models compared in the photos below.

W890 review

A little weeks ago, the successor of Sony Ericsson W880 was announced with the name of Sony Ericsson W890. The W890 follows up by increasing the depth of the phone with a meaningless 0.5 millimetres while adding a whole lot of features and a design that is to die for.

The W890 allows you to pick music that matches your mood with SensMe™. With its 2GB of memory, you can store up to 1800 tracks* in this device. For those who like pictures every precious moment, the W980 provides 3.2 megapixel camera in its slim body.

Whether you’re on your own or with friends, the W890’s colour matched stereo headset and in-built stereo speakers deliver a high quality listening experience. The phone incorporates the Walkman® Player 3.0, the latest in Walkman® technology, which offers one-click access to the player and simple, intuitive navigation around your music.

W890 Review

GSMArena.com has reviewed the Sony Ericsson W890. This is a great music phone with 2GB flash memory and a 3.2 mega pixel fixed focus camera. W890 is the W880 successor with some useful improvements. You can read the complete W890 Review Here. The conclusion is as follows:

The Sony Ericsson Walkman lineup is diverse enough to cater to all tastes in terms of design and functionality. With the W890 we have a nice update in the slim bar form factor.

We liked the compact and amiable W880, and we believe the W890 is a welcome successor. It does address some of the major letdowns in the older W880: the tiny keys and the lack of FM radio. The user interface of the hi-end W910 and the added HSDPA and quad-band GSM support are a commendable effort to set the Sony Ericsson W890 above its predecessor.
