r300 r306 review

Well, finally we have the review on the radio series from Sony Ericsson, which consisted of R300 and R306. It is obvious that these handsets are aimed to gain market share in developing countries. Thanks to our friends at unwiredview.com that post the review.

R300, the first of the two models, is a simple-looking candybar phone built on an old platform that is miles behind the A100 both in looks and functionality. The only interesting function that it - and the second phone in the series, the R306 - have is TrackID which allows you to find out the names of the songs you record from any source, and the ability to use parts of the tracks played on the radio as ringtones. The back of the phone is stylized like a small radio receiver; there are additional memory buttons for your favorite radio channels, and a speaker which takes up a large part of the back panel.

Sony Ericsson R300

Recently, the FCC has approved another Sony Ericsson’s product named Sony Ericsson R300 Radio. The handset –as you can guess– has an AM/FM radio and dedicated loudspeaker. But there’s something about this handset. The version at the FCC supports tri-band GSM (900/1800/1900MHz), with no mention of the other (850/1800/1900MHz) version that was also announced.

The R300 Radio features a simple VGA-resolution camera and a small 1.8″ color display. The handset also sports Sony Ericsson’s TrackID application, which allows you to record a small snippet of a song and get information such as artist, album, and track title right on your phone. The R300 Radio can also record and save music played by the AM/FM radio for playback later.

Vice President and Head of Entry Level Products at Sony Ericsson Howard Lewis said that the radio feature of the Sony Ericsson R300 and R306 will get the users closer to their favorite music shows or even sports events from both AM and FM broadcasts. He also added that users can choose between candy bar design or clamshell design. Howard added that both of them look and sound great and offer a radio-inspired design and other features.

With great sales in 2007, Sony Ericsson need to increase their productions capacity to meets high demand in 2008. SEpassion reported that Sony Ericsson will increase manufacturing capacity in India. Of the four phones – T270, T280, R300 and R306 – two phones will be manufactured in India. The R300 and R306 will join the ranks of phones like the J110, J120, J121 and W200i that are already being manufactured in the country. While not revealing the current production capacity, Sudhin Mathur, GM, India operations, said that production capacity will be doubled in 2008 and will exceed 10 million phones by 2009. It will also ramp up the number of Sony Ericsson exclusive experience stores from 58 to 300 by the year 2009.
