In a national selection conducted by a Chinese Entrepreneur magazine, Daonong Enterprise Institute and Guanghua School of Management of Beijing University, the award called China Green Company was given to Ericsson for its continuous commitment to innovation in environmental protection in China

The award was given to the company in the midst of the 2008 China Green Company Annual Conference in Beijing. During this selection, green has been defined as the harmonious co-existence not only between man and nature, but also among human beings, the latter of which includes the relationship between entrepreneurs and the public, as well as between enterprises and society.

Launched during July 2007, the six-month selection process went through five phases, before the winners were selected. According to the judges, the rating system was mainly composed of the environmental index and the social index, including environment perception and policy, environmental impact assessment, environmental performance, environmental business prospect, environmental protection public relations, publicity of environmental information, employee relationship, consumers, social participation and social commitment.

Ericsson succeeded in getting the framework agreements worth about US$1.3 billion and US$140 million respectively in China. Ericsson signed the agreement with China’s two largest mobile operators, China Mobile and China Unicom.

According to the agreement, Ericsson will supply the core and radio network equipment, along with related technical support and services, to expand GSM/GPRS coverage and capacity in 19 regions across China. In addition, the company also will develop power-saving features that can reduce energy consumption in mobile networks significantly. This follows the “Green Action Program”, a Strategic Cooperation Memorandum previously signed between the two parties.

Under the agreement with China Unicom, Ericsson will be the main supplier and help expand GSM networks in 10 regions across China, including Beijing where Ericsson has previously not been a supplier. Ericsson will also supply multimedia solutions for WAP services.

Ericsson will be in charge for a lot of stuff as the SmarTone-Vodafone selected Ericsson as its sole supplier according to the contract they made that started on April 3, 2008. Ericsson will serve the Hongkong’s number 4th mobile phone operator in these kinds of task:

  1. To setup and maintaining a HSPA-enabled (High Speed Packet Access) radio access network, including Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS), a functionality that enables mobile-TV services to be broadcast.
  2. The deal also includes a fully IP-based core network, including IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), Ericsson’s Mobile Softswitch Solution, and Redback’s SmartEdge routers.
  3. Network design
  4. Systems integration
  5. Spare parts management service
  6. Support services
  7. Network deployment and integration.

Paraguay’s operator, named Personal, has elected Ericsson as the one and only supplier of a nationwide WCDMA/HSPA network and IP-based common core network. With this kind of network, operator will be able to introduce a new generation of mobile broadband services.

Besides providing the services named above, Sony Ericsson under the one-year frame agreement will also provides several professional services, such as network design, network deployment and systems integration, network review and knowledge transfer. Deployment has started.

Ericsson’s HSPA solution will boost network capacity, allowing Personal to broaden its service offering and tap into new revenue streams. Subscribers will enjoy a richer communication experience through the introduction of next-generation mobile broadband services, including high-speed mobile internet access, mobile TV and video, and mobile-music related services.

Marcelo Prudencio, CEO of Personal Paraguay, said that the Ericsson’s state-of-the-art technology and experience will allow Personal to provide a premium, end-to-end customer experience. He said that his company is committed to offering a world-class 3G network throughout the country

Recently, Ericsson and Napster announced the largest European hosting contract for Napster Mobile with O2 UK.

O2 UK’s customers will be able to search, browse, preview and purchase full-length tracks from Napster’s catalog of over 5 million tracks and, thanks to the dual delivery, play them both on their mobile phones and PCs. In addition, if they’re in the mood to research new music, Napster’s recommendation engine helps users get new tunes based upon their taste.

Under the agreement, Ericsson will do all the work around hosting, include systems integration, operations, maintenance and content management.

Earlier, we saw Ericsson and Napster launching the music service in Chile with Entel PCS and in Italy with TIM.
