HTC Desire HD Vs Nokia N8
Comparing new devices is always interesting to do because we can review at least two phones side by side and get directly which phone that wins over its counterpart and which phone is better. For those who need to buy a new phone, reading such reviews is important, of course. And, today’s comparison can be one of your references to guide you decide which one is better, HTC Desire HD or Nokia N8?
Platform:
HTC Desire HD has the latest Android v2.2 (Froyo) which is told as the hottest mobile platform giving great features people would like. And, Nokia N8 has a brand new Symbian 3 OS which is still debutant and nobody has tested it. Thus, at this point Android Froyo might be the temporary best pick since many devices have proofed its superiority over other kind of operating systems.
Performance and Storage:
HTC desire HD offers 1.5 GB internal storage, 768 MB RAM, and Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8255 1 GHz processor. This is the least processor in which a high-end smartphone keeps inside today. If you find a new smartphone which has less than 1 GHz processor capacity, it shows the phone’s performance is out dated. Thus, HTC HD is safe at this stage. Moreover, HTC allows you to expand the microSD up to 32GB that will give much more spaces to your storage. On the other side, Nokia N8 has 16 GB storage, 256MB RAM, 512 MB ROM and ARM 11 680 MHz processor, 3D Graphics HW accelerator. You also can add the external memory up to 32GB, but of course, you should buy the memory by yourself. Now you can choose which phone performs faster. And, it is clear that HTC Desire HD beats Nokia N8.
Size:
HTC Desire HD gets 123 x 68 x 11.8 mm dimension and weighs in 164 g, while Nokia N8 has 113.5 x 59.1 x 12.9 mm, and weighs in 135 g. We found Nokia N8 is lighter than HTC Desire HD, thus it is good point for people who love lightweight phone.
Display:
Desire HD is designed with S-LCD capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors and 480 x 800 pixels. Its screen arrives at 4.3 inches. And, the hottest detail of the screen is that Desire HD offers HTC sense User Interface which is incredibly connected with the HTCSense.com. And, users will find a lot of benefits through the website, such example, you can make an account and synchronize it with your device, you can remote lock and wipe features through the site as long as you get wireless connection, and many other things. And, Nokia N8 comes with AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors and 360 x 640 pixels, 3.5 inches. Although N8 has no online User Interface support, N8 has scratch resistant Gorilla glass display that gives you maximum protection to your phone’s screen.
Connectivity:
Desire HD is supported with 3G network with HSDPA and HSUPA technology, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP, and microUSB v2.0, while N8 has HSDPA and HSUPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v3.0 with A2DP, and microUSB v2.0 and USB On-the-go support.
Camera:
Desire HD should admit that Nokia N8 is awesome. N8 succeeded to break the camera resolution stuck with its 12 MP and 4000×3000 pixels. Add to that, the onboard camera features Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus, Xenon flash, ND filter, geo-tagging, face and smile detection. It also can capture video 720p and spots a VGA video call camera. While, Desire HD only gets 8 MP camera that comes with 3264×2448 pixels, autofocus, dual-LED flash, and features geo-tagging, face detection. Desire HD’s camera can also capture video at 720p, but unfortunately there’s no secondary camera.
Battery:
As for battery life Desire HD has 420 h standby time which is 20 hours longer than Nokia N8 that comes with 400 hours only. But, both phones have same battery talk time duration with 5 hours 30 minutes.
Conclusion
With its awesome camera Nokia N8 easily hits Desire HD. Add to that, the Nokia N8 offers attractive additional features which cannot be chased by HTC Desire HD, they are: TV-out and Dolby Digital Plus via HDMI. Nokia N8 also is able to impress users by its anodized aluminum casing. Well, do you think the Desire HD still can beat the Nokia N8?

Nokia’s build quality is awesome and at the same time 680MHz processor is enough to run symbian.
The only question which decides the answer is you like symbian or android ?
I personally feel android is way far more advanced than symbian and the UI it features is unbeatable. Symbian is very good but comparing it to android ? You Decide !!!
I don’t come and connect to HDMI on way daily basis. Although i keep on using cell phone for browsing and playing with it around. So i would prefer to go with desire.

I find it difficult to compare phones that aren’t being available to the general public. I much rather read user’s opinions a few weeks after either phone has been launched.

I’ve got them both, and DHD is by far my favourite. The user experience is fare greater and it’s got so much more to play with software wise. I would sure like to have some of N8 hardware on it tho… But I guess there is no such thing as a perfect phone yet.

Nokia N8 is great on paper only! I know because I bought the damn thing!
If hanging during browsing/web tv and restarting with problems recurring and frequently blur still pictures are your bag, then by all means, do get a Nokia N8-00.

Mate you tried using both devices. listen if i wanted to connect to HDMI i would use my laptop. if i wanted to take pictures i would use my digital SLR.
i have the desire HD after returned the N8 as it is SH*T. I will never trade my desire HD for an N8, or an Iphone 4, or a galaxy S. IT is simply amazing on paper nd in hand. it will rip al over the N8 and leave it crippled. all hail android 2.2 froyo
