The new BlackBerry Torch 9800 is now available in the market, sporting slide out keyboard and also a capacitive touchscreen and a brand new BlackBerry OS 6. Let put this new BlackBerry in cage with the iPhone 4. The purpose is to find which one to choose if you are looking for touchscreen phone.
We will compare them in some categories, and see who wins, BlackBerry Torch 9800 Vs Apple iPhone 4:
*Screen
iPhone 4 certainly wins in this matter, bringing 3.5-inch capacitive 640×960 pixels resolution screen with Retina display technology while the Torch only brings 360×480 pixel, 3.2-inch display.
Apple is more experienced in making a touchscreen phone than RIM, resulting iPhone 4 to be more advanced in touchscreen experience.
Winner: iPhone 4
*Processor
iPhone 4 sports a snappy 1GHz processor while the Torch only brings 624MHz but unfortunately, this processor power difference doesn’t mean that iPhone is faster than the Torch, better memory management makes the BlackBerry somehow equal.
Winner: BlackBerry Torch 9800
*Browser
The great Safari browser on iPhone 4 is beaten by the Torch’s WebKit browser. The Torch performs smoother tabbed browsing than the iPhone 4 and it can also resize the font displayed in the browser.
Winner: BlackBerry Torch 9800
*Applications
iPhone 4 wins with the huge amount of application support from Apple Market, though the BlackBerry apps store is developing. The Apple apps also come in relatively cheaper than BlackBerry.

Winner: BlackBerry Torch 9800
*Camera
Both share the same megapixel that is 5 megapixel, but iPhone 4 supports HD video recording while the Torch only VGA. Both phone offers great quality snapshot, however the iPhone 4 sharper and sports front-facing camera.
Winner: Apple iPhone 4
*Battery life
Bringing a lower capacity battery doesn’t meant the BlackBerry last shorter (Torch’s 1300mAh in comparison to the iPhone 4 1420mAh). Even the Torch will last longer than the iPhone 4 thank to the great power management.
Winner: BlackBerry Torch 9800
Verdict:
iPhone 4 feature somehow is limited for fanatic user only, while the BlackBerry Torch offer standard feature that may be more acceptable for everyone. If the BlackBerry put more time and thinking much on innovation and marketing strategies, they could be equal. Now the BlackBerry is more likely a rival to Android.

I have used the Iphone and the Blackberry Torch extensively. The Blackberry is so much more functional than the Iphone. Anyone who suggests the Iphone is superior either just prefers the fun apps or has never used a Blackberry to any great extent. My Iphone is in a box collecting dust. It looks good and has fun apps but, in terms of day to day business use, its just a toy.
