Way back in April iPhone 4.0 was announced for developers. The first device which will display the potential of this platform is iPhone 4G. On other side, the Android 2.2 was released couple weeks ago is being disclose and apparently looking very firm. We offer you the comparison between these two OS, to guide you to choose between the two platforms if you are thinking to get a new cell phone.
Multitasking
The Android are born with multitasking ability, and it just gets better and faster in the new Android 2.2 at switching between running apps and run them all at the same time.
In the other hand, the old days of Apple are less satisfying. The iPhone have never live in multi tasking world, but not until now, the new iOS 4 now brought up a multitasking feature on the platform. Not like in BlackBerry or Android that you must hold down a button to see the running apps, the iPhone use double click on the home button.
Social networking
Both platforms are able to access social networking feature, so these two platforms are somewhat equal in this area and both have Facebook integrated with contact.
Exchange support
In the Exchange support area, the Apple’s Os has always been the winner with the syncing features with any Exchange email; where as other device always has a problem with old email servers. Now with the supports multiple Exchange accounts, iPhone really set up the bar, but the Android could come out with the solution on this new Android 2.2. We’ll just have to see how much better it is.
Performance
Though this new running iOS 4 won’t be a problem to the processor speed, the multi tasking ability feature require a faster processor. But then, Android 2.2 has been design to take care this business with ease using JIT (Just-In-Time) compiler to minimize the use of RAM, as a result it really cuts off a lot RAM than the late models.
Storage
Well, might be the iPhone 4 will still not be supported with storage expansion through memory card slot, but still the iPhone really able to holds up a lot with its internal. Android in the other hand support SD card storage, and they are hot swappable, so you can change it on the go.
Applications
On Apple many old apps will not be supported in the new updated OS. It answers the question why Apple released the new OS first for the developer. The Major platform update is the SDK that supports a lot of new Application Programming Interface (API).
Applying open source application development, the Android apps development is more open than Apple. Almost all application in Android 2.1 will work exactly the same on Android 2.2. We still can use the same apps if we decided to upgrade the Android. Android 2.2 has improved its Android Market and also the change of look is really satisfying.
Tethering
Though iPhone supports tethering, you still have to pay extra for this feature.
On the other hand the Android 2.2, support free data sharing with other device such as laptops. So, you can use your Android powered device as a modem.
Verdict
Looks like the Google and Apple filling are each other hole, and in fact if the Apple wasn’t so arrogant they could really produce a super-operation system. It’s hard to say who wins in this fight until their devices are released. If only the iPhone has more enhanced camera, a storage card slot, extra apps and the Android developed their Android Market to keep up with Appstore, added full Exchange support then it would be perfect.
