This week we get a hot news of half part of Sony Ericsson joint venture, Ericsson. Well, at least the news is somewhat reassuring. Reuters on Friday reported that Sony Ericsson has planned to adopt Android OS to their future phones although the availability is still unknown.
As Google Android OS will be the important OS in future, some manufactures decide to develop the phones based on it. There is no exception for Sony Ericsson. They plan to adopt 3 OS in their high-end devices. The 3 OS are Microsoft WinMo, Symbian and Android. However, according to Hideki Komiyama, the Chief Executive of Sony Ericsson, the plan will take time to be realized. The company needs some number of testing as well as the consumer viewpoint as feedback.

The report shows the decrease in the Q1 2009 compared with 2008. The decrease is about 35% for unit shipped and 36% for sales. The reasons of that decrease are weak confidence from consumer as well as retail and distribution’s de-stocking. Finally, the gross margin also decline, so also is the income which loss somewhere between 340 – 390 millions Euro according to March 20 report.
Dick Komiyama, Sony Ericsson president, said that they aim to bring back Sony Ericsson to the profitability. In order to reach that, the company will work in a program to get annual cost reduction about 400 million Euro. The program will end in the middle of 2010. So far the cost reduction program has worked in workforce reduction step by step.
Sony Ericsson Xperia is complained by South Korean users. The complaint is about its weak reception, data rates that relatively slow, its video support that poor, the bad battery power and the error in its keyboard design.
It is said that the phone’s boot time and menu navigation are slow, although this thing is common for WinMo OS.
