There are a lot of confusion when theme creators list phone compatibility. Thanks to Devnull from etheme forum, he has made a list to hopefully clear any confusion.
Unfortunately, he only listed themes for 240×320px screen size phones since that’s the size most theme creators work in nowadays.
So for future reference here’s the list according to SE’s Designers guidelines:

The phone in bold type is probably placed wrong in the SE documentation. Themes for W760 are identified as v4.7 when created in SE’s Themes Creator.
The difference between v4.6 and v4.7 themes can be illustrated like this:
As can be seen the title text in the Desktop menu is placed higher on v4.7 themes and it will overlap any statusbar (which tends to be in most v4.6 themes). Hence those are not 100% compatible, even if all images use the same size in both versions. In addition v4.7 theme doesn’t use a Desktop Highlight image, as found in v4.5 and 4.6 themes.
