There’s a buzz from a Chinese-language Commercial Times that wrote that five ODM handsets that will be launched in 2009 will be bid by Compal Communications, following the Sony Ericsson’s invitation to the company. The paper also wrote that in the second half of 2007 Sony Ericsson’s low-cost EDM orders was switched from Compal to Chi Mei Communication Systems (CMCS)
Compal is emerging, once again, as a potential supplier for Sony Ericsson now that CMCS has already received 2009 orders for 30 million ultra low-cost handsets from Motorola, while Arima Communications, another ODM handset maker for Sony Ericsson, is reluctant to accept orders for low-cost handsets, the paper said.
